UNICEF Canada’s 25th Team is a unique partnership that brought together 60 Canadian women to help women and children in need around the world.

Among these women is our very own Co-Founder Lisa Grogan.

Lisa and the other 59 members of The 25th Team, along with the Government of Canada, The Garrett Family Foundation, and Teck, have pledged a four-year financial commitment to change the lives of the world’s most vulnerable women and children.Thousands of children die each day due to a lack of access to basic preventative healthcare measures. The goal of The 25th Team is to improve maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health in targeted developing countries.

The 25th Team is investing four years in five countries: Cambodia, Ethiopia, Peru, Indonesia, and Namibia. The initiatives are designed to work with communities and governments in order to reach as many struggling women and children as possible, the ultimate goal being 3.8 million people.

In just one year, the contributions of The 25th Team helped 25,000 pregnant women, helped register 35,000 newborns, and provided 150,000 children under five with essential health and nutrition services.

“The first year of the project has been a great success. Thanks to the support of The 25th Team, a strong foundation for the next three years has been set and we have begun reaching children and women directly with critical services.”

Part of the initiative allows 25th Team members to learn about global sustainable development firsthand. In 2016, Lisa had the privilege of visiting Peru where she saw the scope and importance of UNICEF’s programs up close.

“It was an incredible experience to see the direct impact of our investment across remote areas of Peru. We are supporting a range of maternal health initiatives across the country, and it was interesting to learn the role that literacy also plays in the well-being of mothers and children. I was so proud to see our country supporting things like school materials. The experience made me all the more committed to supporting our world’s women and children.”
